Turnbull

William McLeod. Origin: Loyalist.

William McLeod resided on the Isle of Skye, Scotland in about 1750, but departed for the American Colonies, arriving there in 1772. He received 200 acres of land in the Turnbull area of Long Island on 11 March 1789. The land was bounded by that of Walter Turnbull on two sides, Dugald Forbes, and by the sea. As he was a merchant in Nassau and not a planter, he sold this land to John DeBois, director of physics, for 1,140 British pounds on 2 September 1800.

His sister Helen McLeod married Alexander McQueen, a Loyalist and Long Island grantee, and his daughter Margaret wed Robert Carruthers.
