James Spatches (Spatchers). Origin: Old Inhabitant.

James Spatches was granted 57 acres in Salt Pond, Long Island on 5 October 1790. The last name is also written as “Spatchers” and “Spratchers.” The surname is present in a number of early Bahamas records, and the family was well-established here in the first half of the 18th century.

A William Spatchers of New Providence wrote his will on 30 May, 1749. A William Spatchers Jr. of New Providence is listed in the 1731 census, with a wife and four children.
