John Darville. Origin: Old Inhabitant.

The son of Marmaduke and Mary Darville, Old Inhabitants, John Darville was granted 200 acres in the Lower Deadmans Cay area of Long Island on 3 April 1788.

An affidavit in the Slave Register 1822 by John Richard Darvill for his wife, Jane Darvill, stated she had 11 slaves on Long Island. The Darville family has a long and illustrious history in the Bahamas.

Note: the last name is written “Darvil” (1740 Census), “Darvill,” and “Darville” (1731 Census).
