Land Grants

D-38 (80 acres, 22 Jun 1789)

William Bow(e). Origin: Old Inhabitant.

William Bow was granted 80 acres in today’s settlement of McKenzies on Long Island on 22 June 1789. His land was bounded by that of Roger Bow, Donald McKenzie, the sea, and vacant land. William Bow(e) was exempt from paying quit rent on this land for two years, showing he was an Old Inhabitant.

To this day, there is a point in this area known to locals as “Billy Bow,” though nobody remembers why it is called that (Francis Darville 2020).
