Settlement

Morris

Grants

D-145 (80 acres, 21 Sept 1790)

Robert Bridgewater. Origin: Unknown.

Robert Bridgewater was granted 80 acres in the current settlement of Morris on Long Island on 21 September 1790, bounded by the land of Loyalists John Morris, Andrew Deveaux Jr., and George McKenzie. A Robert Bridgewater is also listed as the husband of emigrant Elizabeth Scott, who arrived in “Potomack” (Maryland) in either October 1730 or January 1731. Because of the geographical association of the land grants, as well as his name mentioned in Maryland in 1730/1, it is possible that Robert Bridgewater was a Loyalist, but we found no conclusive evidence either way.
