Sarah Chavers (Sheavers). Origin: Unknown

Sarah Chavers/Sheavers received 80 Acres in the Miley area of Long Island on 5 December 1788, but we were unable to locate her surname in either a Loyalist or an early Bahamian context. We do note that while her name is written as “Chavers” on the Lands & Surveys Map, on the Tatnall Map her surname is spelled “Sheavers.” We looked unsuccessfully for both spellings. We consider it to be at least possible that her name was “Shearer.”
